Truth Distortion and the Trickster Magician

ACCM Deep Ethics Project · Topologetic mirror summary

Bounded purpose and provenance

This WordPress mirror is a bounded visitor-orientation summary of Truth Distortion and the Trickster Magician. It preserves the source page’s main nodes, answer-changing relationships, qualifiers, direction and correction route while leaving the fuller object recoverable through the source link below.

Source status: BETA, draft. Source: public GitHub project page.

Object and trajectory

BETA — DRAFT — TRIAL & ERROR This page is a public-facing synthesis derived from John Kuhles' source material on the 36 truth-distortion nodes/vectors, the 3×3 Deep Ethical core questions, the “trickster magician” metaphor, and related Human ↔ A.I. discussion. It is intended to preserve the depth and relationships of the source without presenting every source claim as already established fact. Where the source uses speculation, metaphor, personal interpretation, or “what if” reasoning, that epistemic status should remain visible.

The ACCM Deep Ethics Project therefore does not treat “truth” as a magic certification word. It asks what happened between the object and the representation.

The 36 truth-distortion nodes/vectors are valuable because they make this field harder to collapse into one simple binary: true / false.

“What kind of distortion might be present, where did it enter, what did it alter, and what conclusion—if any—is actually warranted?”

The second triad asks what interaction with information actually does.

TRUTH VALUE ≠ PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT ≠ PRACTICAL EFFECT ≠ DEVELOPMENTAL TRAJECTORY

The “trickster magician” metaphor adds something the 36 alone do not fully show: how distortion can become experiential and socially self-sustaining.

One of the most important corrections in the source material is the distinction between:

Do not assume every movie contains a hidden deception simply because you have learned how deception works.

The central mechanism is that a distortion does not require every carrier to be malicious.

→ correction metabolism tests whether discovery actually changes later behavior

The word “truth” does not guarantee distortion-free transmission. The word “good” does not guarantee distortion-free action. The word “ethical” does not guarantee distortion-free ethics. The process has to remain inspectable, corrigible, and willing to show what transformed.

Preserved from John: the central truth-distortion field, 3×3 inquiry orientation, magician / illusion metaphor, good-intention propagation mechanism, “what if” ≠ “it is,” trust must be earned, the distinction between what is presented and reality itself, and the requirement that the operator remain inside the audit field.

Load-bearing nodes

  • Why this matters
  • The 36 are not automatic truth-value detectors
  • The 3×3 as calibration architecture
  • Layer 1 — Information → Carrier → Receiver
  • Layer 2 — Pragmatic effect → Psychological effect → Empowerment / trajectory
  • Layer 3 — Definition → Symmetry → Reference state
  • The magician metaphor: from output to transformation visibility
  • “Seeing all that is before me” is not omniscience
  • “Once seen, you cannot unsee it” — a stricter interpretation
  • Truth before comfort — without turning discomfort into a truth detector

Answer-changing relationships

The following relations carry more meaning than isolated keywords. Their order, direction, claim status or asymmetry should remain visible:

  • ≠ our access to it
  • ≠ our perception of it
  • ≠ our representation of it
  • ≠ our interpretation of that representation
  • ≠ the carrier's presentation of it
  • ≠ the receiver's reconstruction of it
  • ≠ the social status assigned to it

Metacognitive topological reading

The metacognitive question is not only what this page says, but what happens to its object when Why this matters is interpreted through The 36 are not automatic truth-value detectors. A shorter representation can keep the nouns and still lose who supplied a relation, whether it was explicit or inferred, what came before what, and which qualifier prevents a possibility from hardening into a conclusion.

The topology also remains recursive: the observer, summarizer, classifier and correction process belong inside the field of inspection. The 3×3 as calibration architecture cannot receive automatic authority merely because it sounds careful or ethical. Its effects, asymmetries and behavior in the next comparable case remain part of the evidence.

This mirror therefore marks its own limits. It is a derivative orientation layer, not the source object and not a final interpretation. Another reader may recover a consequential edge omitted here; that difference should reopen the map rather than be hidden by the fluency of this summary.

Correction and reopening route

  • Return to the full page when a decision depends on exact wording, timing, attribution, evidence status, humor, or a delayed qualification.
  • Distinguish what the source states explicitly from what this summary infers or organizes.
  • Compare competing risks, including the risks of action, inaction, delay, compression and overexpansion.
  • Let later evidence, source clarification and recurrence after correction change the representation.

This is the orientation layer. The fuller object, examples, evidence, qualifications and development history continue on the ACCM Deep Ethics Project:
